I'm happy with a Tamrac product I picked up a few years back their # MXS5369 - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/248148-REG/Tamrac_MXS536901_MXS5369_Memory_Battery.html a ballistic material tri fold carrier, a little bigger than a pocket wallet. 5"X4"X1.5" that opens up to reveal 8 individual pockets to hold either CF or SD cards. Each pocket is capable of holding multiple cards and each pocket has a red flap that can be used to signify either empty or full cards. I attach it to my pack with an included snap strap.

Subject: SD card holders

I primarily carry my SD cards on my camera strap. I used to carry extra film in cans I had taped to my camera strap and the modern equivalent are these wonderful straps by tamrac:

I carry empty cards on the left case, full ones on the right, and everything is hunky dory. What I'd like to find is a good way of carrying more cards, other than on my camera. My camera bag does have a couple of pockets for SD cards, but, for one, I'd like to be able to easily move the cards from one pack to another. Also when on a trip, I'd rather carry my "exposed" cards on my person, in case something happens to my pack that way at least I don't lose my photos.

For micro-SD (my phone and such) I love the SDcardholder cards:

although they can only hold 4 SD cards.

There is an interesting competitor called the DiMe card that holds a both SD and micro SD:

What I think would probably be ideal would be a small case, ideally hard, with two compartments, one for full, one for empty cards, where they could be stored loose. Although something with several SDcardholders, where full cards could be stored upside down to mark them, would also work.

What sort of nifty, inexpensive gadgets do you you use for storing and carrying your SD cards? Or do you just transfer all of your files to an external hard drive and carry that instead?
