Nope. No focus by wire. It's old school, at least as old school as an auto focus lens can be. To override auto focus you must disengage the lens from the screw drive by switching off AF on the body. The one I have is older and a bit beat up, the gears no longer mesh quite perfectly so there's a slight whirring sound during manual focusing. It doesn't bother me since I don't shoot video, but it is noticeable, and probably happens to all copies as they age.
