I believe you're right about user-hoots and Zuckerberg, but I don't think the majority of Facebook's users constrain themselves like you do, Paul. Part of its success is being so much more than what you list. A platform for discussing news, sharing images, playing games, promoting your business, seeking out fellow proponents of your favourite conspiracy theories, etc. etc. It is also an international place, not just a playground for the nude-o-phobics of certain circles of the American society. Well, ok, I admit we have some of those circles up here in the Frostpit too, but we certainly don't let them impose ridiculous limits on the freedom of press/speech, and the necessity of sometimes showing unpleasant images to raise awareness in the society. And interestingly, when pressed, Facebook agrees. At least in this case. Jostein
I have long described Facebook as a perfect example of what happens when software grows up without adult supervision.
Also, like other "free as in beer" platforms, if you aren't paying for it, you are the product, not the customer.
