Good idea, I used the gradient tool on it.
Sorry, but I find that logic (quoted below) faulty. Not having shot a grey card can make it hard to make sure the colors are accurate, or more difficult to get the rendering your want. But it does not change whether the colors come through or not.
Not doing it can make the white and gold dress look blue and black.
