I used to fear that the desirable lenses and bodies were becoming increasingly scarce
as collectors bought them up. But I now think they are getting more and more abundant,
or at least easier to find and own. Here's why:

1. As more original owners age and die, their collections enter the channel.

2. As digital photography becomes increasingly attractive, more owners are disposing
of their 1970s-80s gear...while fewer camera buffs are seeking 1970s-80s gear.

3. More sellers--individuals, camera dealers, and estate houses--are discovering EBay
and feeding scarce lenses into that channel. While it's true that more and more buyers
are also discovering EBay, but we enthusiasts are competing with a vanishing breed.

4. More dealers of used camera gear are setting up online sites. Search engines,
meanwhile, are getting better at finding them all.

It seems to me that lenses that I would see perhaps once or twice a year are now
turning up on my radar far more often.

What do you think?
