I posted it here because I am somewhat puzzled and distressed by events in Britain and Europe
Nothing wrong with that. We Europeans are just as distressed about what is going on in the U.S.
Over here, with globalization and all that, too much money has been falling upwards in the last two decades. People are feeling left out and the old promise of "be good and work hard and you'll have a better life" doesn't hold anymore.
The French have elected two presidents (Macron, Hollande and to a large measure also Sarko) who not only didn't deliver but produced the opposite of what they promised.
All over Europe, things are in reverse gear. Nationalism is rampant again and the political right is gaining strength. Not that these right-wing parties were having any solutions. Far from it. But noone seems to care. People no longer vote for something but only against this or that, preferably against immigrants, despite the fact that a few dozen guys in white collars cost us more on a single than all immigrants together in a year.
Those are strange times. As my grandmother used to say: You're having it too good. There should be another war so you'll see how bad things really can get.
