You probably get a very selective and unrepresentative view of what's going on 
over here, as I'm sure we do of things on your side of the pond. You will 
certainly get a twisted view if you rely for your information on hate-sheets 
like the Express and Mail - the BBC is a much more reliable and balanced 
source, although I have to say it's been dumbing down a lot recently. 

I often find it difficult to square things I hear from Americans about Europe 
with what I experience over here, and I know from meeting so many of you that 
it is not something intrinsic to American-ness, so I think it's probably just a 
result of your sources of information.
