Gertrude is a lot easier to say than "that mother turkey who has two children
that keeps a bit separate from the rest of the flock of wild turkeys in the
neighborhood".

Thanks. We were incredibly lucky with the lack of wind. Cal Fire was
stretched incredibly thin, had very few resources they could spare us, and the
smoke was so thick they couldn't get air support. I saw a report that if the
fire reached downtown Boulder Creek, Cal Fire was just going to abandon the
whole San Lorenzo Valley and use the resources on much more densely populated
areas under threat. The fire seems to have come within a few hundred meters of
that point.

You folks may find this damage assesment map of interest
https://www.santacruzcounty.us/FireRecovery/DamageAssessmentMap.aspx

They seem to only be marking houses safe in areas that were under specific
threat.

I live on Hwy 9 a bit south of Glen Arbor, between Brackney and El Solyo on the
logical east, geographic north side of hwy 9

the map shows the fire boundary as getting to about 3/4 mile, a bit over a km
from my house.
