Having spent a few hours looking at the Pentax forums it appears that the original white Japanese solenoid was discontinued and was replaced with a green Chinese one which was problematic. As far as I can work out, Pentax is still using a green Chinese solenoid. Therefore the key question, which I've so far been unable to clarify, is whether the currently used solenoid is a modified version.

The K-30, K-50 and K-70 are all named in the class action lawsuit, but it appears unclear how much, if at all, the K-70 is affected. There's a lot of internet chatter including from people don't even have a K-70, some people who seem to have had the problem, and some quoting a Pentax representative who apparently stated the mechanism in the K-70 was different. It's a confused picture.

Honestly, a good place to get this sort of information is pentaxforums.com.
My understanding is the problem originated from the supplier of the solenoid either stopping making it or making it unavailable, so a new one was sourced from another vendor, and that one is problematic.
