The K3III should be along soon, but apparently there have been
interuptions in the parts supply that is slowing it down.
It is not going to be an inexpensive camera, but one can anticipate K3
bodies hitting the used market upon the release of the new camera.
The K3 is still an excellent performer in the APS-C class, shough IIRC,
you are gaining 50% MP but trading off a little bit of high ISO
performance over the K5.
The K3 does not use a solenoid for aperture actuation, it uses a motor,
and has been very reliable.

Thanks - another consideration. Having thought about the Aperture Block
problem overnight (or more accurately during the night) I decided that I
didn't want a camera that began with a potential problem - especially
one that would probably appear a month after the warranty ended. K-70
order cancelled!
I'll do some more research. It may be that Pentax have sorted this, but
I haven't seen any evidence either way. I also need to look at the other
options.

Welcome back Alastair!
I went from the istD to the K-10D to the K-7 and then to the K-5
(which I’m still using almost 10 years later).
The K-5 has a higher-resolution sensor with =much= better low-light
performance than the K-7; and the colors are almost as good as those
of the K-10.
My wife has a K-70, and IMHO the user interface is not nearly as good
as any of the others.
Cheers,

I've just re-joined PDML after about 10 years - not that my absence
would have been noticeable as I was mainly a lurker. Work became too
busy and the bridge camera was more portable than the K20D when
weight was an issue. However the Lumix's focussing is too slow for a
fast moving 2 year old grandson, and it's been good to use the Pentax
more. I might even be tempted to put batteries and film in the LX...
And should I upgrade the K20D, now that I am retired and supposedly
have more time? A better low light sensor would be good and the K-70
will probably suit, but I must do more research.
I recognise many of the same names as 10 years ago, some of whom I
met at the 2005 London PDML at Borough Market and the London Eye. I'm
enjoying not just the Pentax discussions and photos, but of course
the eclectic OT discussions ranging from US domestic voltages to
Covid-19 antibody responses. As a microbiologist with an interest in
the history of disease, the horrors of the past year have held a
morbid fascination, but hopefully we will all be safely allowed out
soon.
BTW, is there still a digest version?
