And I believe that PJs discovered the quality of the 105mm f2.5 Nikkor lens
and, coupled with low prices for bodies and lenses overseas, spurred the
rush to the Nikon F as the PJ's premier system camera. At least that's how
it appeared to me.  I was there at the time.  I'm sure the working PJs must
have had some influences on the magazines/newspapers they were working for.
The results from that particular combination spoke very well for Nikon
quality and ruggedness.

I have always been told that Nikon made its inroads in NA as THE pro brand
by 
outfitting the entire photo staff at Life magazine with their F1 (I think).

They were the cream of the pro photo crop in the 50's and 60's.  When others

saw that they were using Nikon, most others fell in line.
