Anyone played with or looked at ActiveMQ? (http://activemq.org)?

A bit. mostly for testing when looking for a good JMS provider. We
ended up going with JBossMQ, but only because we were already on that
platform. ActiveMQ was my preference.

What you're talking about doing can probably be done. ActiveMQ can be
stripped down to a very lightweight (for java) implementation, but it
takes a bit of work. Overall, you'd probably be better off going pure
Ruby if you don't need to support non-Ruby clients. However, if you
need to go with ActiveMQ, let me know, I might be able to help a
little bit. I haven't really messed with gcj in a long time, but I
looked into doing something similar a long, long time ago.
