Craiglist is definitely perceived as the Good Guys, due in no small part to the coolness of Craig Newmark himself.  I wonder though, whether there might be some leverage in the argument that Craigslist needs to open up -- not be such a walled garden anymore. (OTOH, what ever happened to edgio? ahem, back to my point...)

I'm sure you pointed out that you're providing a legitimate service -- in fact a service which if successful, can only increase the value of Craigslist.  Have you thought of calling 'em out on it? (beyond pdx.rb that is?)

Is the CL CEO's beef that you're going to impact their servers by scanning 'em?  If so, could you use Alexa's Web Search Platform as your data source?  Zero net impact on CL servers since that crawl is already going on (predates finetoothcog).

Here's another though I'll bet others already had but I'll throw it out there anyway -- could you run the Craigslist scanning in the users browser?  So it's the end user who has to conform to the "terms of use".  Or will your algorithm not work as _javascript_ in a browser (or are you reluctant to expose your intellectual property that way?)
