Remove Loops is *great* when you are rerouting simple nets. Instead of moving vertexes etc you just place new sections of track (getting the benefits of push or avoid obstacle placement modes), when you complete the new route the old sections (that you have bypassed) are ripped up automagically. I very rarely move vertices any more - it is much faster to re-route sections using loop removal to clean up.
Removing loops is not all that useful on more complex nets, like supplies, where the nets are likely to be looped. It can also choose the wrong loop to remove in some situations (like at Y-junctions when you have formed a triangle loop).
There is a shortcut key to toggle it I think - or it is possible to customize a shortcut key to toggle it, I believe. Can't quite recall. I think the shortcut toggle stuff was there in P99SE and is not just in DXP and later.
