Harry You are wrong , with the voting analogy. I am the customer, It is my buttocks that needs massaged not theirs. . I read all of the DXP postings, here is my assessment of the DXP forum. 1. Alot of the postings re- hash issues already covered on this forum , so most of the same problems still exists 2. Alot of the postings are from PCAD and PADS users trying to figure out how to do the basics ie how to print. 3. The rest of the postings have been one topic....the freaking global edits.
1. I don't have time to re- hash old issues. 2. I don't have time to re-train PADs users ( most of them I despise for their attitude towards Protel) 3. I don't have time for PCAD, which if you followed my postings. I have consistently called "bit-mapped crayola". DXP is a product that has migrated closer to PADs and PCAD. I will stand by my claims...PCAD eventually will be dropped in favor of DXP. It is ridiculous for Altium to write code for two competing products in the same price range. I always look forward to the new service packs. Altium has always made good on service packs. The global edits have to change. I just had a customer throw in the towel trying to edit a schematic making global edits. I managed to figure it out, but not an easy task. I would love to provide inputs with BETA testing but here is what I am faced with. Making money or Beta testing? It is a no brainer, I can not take the risk of using beta software to design PCBs. What do I tell a customer when a board comes back and it is my fault....DUH..I was using BETA software to design your board, sorry. Can we do this again? Basically I would get fired. I have this love, hate relationship with DXP. It is very powerful. More powerful than anything in its price range. I am hearing often from other users that all they want is simple schematic capture, or PCB. I have never heard an engineer say they wanted FPGA tools from Altium. NEVER! Every engineer I know uses the OEM tools for FPGA design. Enough said....I am rehashing old topics again. Back to the original topic....if you dont upgrade life will pass you by. You may be out to pastor in a few years. DXP 2004 is pretty solid, it works the way its suppose to ( maybe not the way we want it to). It works slow but fairly well.
