You are wrong , with the voting analogy. I am the customer, It is my buttocks that needs massaged not theirs. .
But it is OK for others (unpaid) to test the beta software for you? You are not paid to test the software yet you want users to test the beta software? Something of a disconnect here. I must say this doesn't make me, as an unpaid beta tester, feel all that well disposed toward you. Is that what you intended?
<..snip..>
I would love to provide inputs with BETA testing but here is what I am faced with. Making money or
Beta testing? It is a no brainer, I can not take the risk of using beta software to design PCBs. What do I tell a customer when a board comes back and it is my fault....DUH..I was using BETA software to design your board, sorry. Can we do this again? Basically I would get fired.
But it is OK for others to do this? Like lots of us do.
In Oz there is a term for people that make use of other's efforts without putting something back into the community - a "User". It is not considered a flattering term. Hopefully you do something else for your community. (Coach some junior sport maybe? Help old ladies across the street? Put on a tight outfit and battle the Joker in Gotham City?)
