gee this is too bad, i feel for you Leo

i have camtastic, same version as you and
P99SE SP6, i assume you are using SP6

what is your OS ?
i am using win2k
some are SP2 SOME SP4

i use camtastic all the time and it does not cause the trouble you describe
i usually have both open at once

as far as i know these are two completely separate animals and should not step on each other at all

are the PCB files internal to the DDB ?
ie not 'windows file system' ?

since resintalling fixes it, there must some particular file which is the culprit

i suggest once the system is working to copy the .RCS configuration files to a backup directory on your hard drive

also examine other files named *99SE*.*

when the problem reappears, restore those one by one

assuming you can locate a configuration file which is the bad boy maybe you can sniff it out inside that one

if it is not a config file then a .DLL file must be getting corrupted

there are also DLLs named
*.bpl and *.dpl in the Window or Winnt folder

please let us know how it goes

BTW, re losing customizations on reinstall

i too have a lot of customizations and although i am not an advocate of reinstalling things unless absolutely up against the wall

i don't lose the customizations because i keep a copy of the file
CLIENT99SE.rcs somewhere handy

then i either restore that file, or paste in sections of it depending on the situation

i have a zillion key things and could not stand to recreate those all one by one

Having already lost most of the day to that [EMAIL PROTECTED] error I decided to experiment a bit with the freshly installed P99SE. Needless to say all worked fine after the reinstall....
Even the database I opened just before the problem occurred proved not to be a/the problem.

But after using Camtastic the problem re-appeared..... No other programs (apart from email) used in between, so the culprit must be Camtastic.

This leads to the 'good news-bad news' bit: the good news is that my system works again. The bad news: I'm stuck with more questions than before.

Why does Camtastic (3.0.4, shipped with P99SE) mess up my Protel installation (more specific: the PCB part)?
How do I prevent that? I need Camtastic to examine/modify my Gerbers; or can anyone reccommend an alternative with roughly the same functionality?

Still, any input is greatly appreceated.
