Hi, We start to name the layers from the top layer downwards as layer1, layer2, layer3..... the non conductive layers are named as they are intended, that is overlay as top/bottom silkscreen, mechanical. In our case we use GBR extension for the Gerber files. Also, we practice to put the same information on the respective layers either in +ve image or -ve image [text not overlapping each other] preferably on the bottom left corner readable from layer1, inside the PCB.
We aslo include a file that defines the other charecteristics of the PCB like material, dimension, file name, stackup, etc along with contact information. This has enabled us to use multiple vendors to fabricate our PCBs. Hi All, My PCB vendor asks me that in order to correctly ascertain about the identity of Top Layer and Bottom Layer, I should manually write the string "TOP" in the Top Copper Layer and string "BOTTOM" in the Bottom Copper Layer. I tell him that this information is embedded in the Gerber File extensions itself. e.g Design.GTL and Design.GBL means that these files correspond to Top Copper and Bottom Copper Layers respectively. I wanna ask whether this naming of Gerber file extensions by Protel conforms to standard Industry Practice or not ?. If yes, can someone comment about the legitimacy of my PCB Vendor's opinion that I need to mention the layer name in text manually. ?.... Regards, Adeel Malik. ____________________________________________________________ You are subscribed to the PEDA discussion forum To Post messages: mailto:[email protected] Unsubscribe and Other Options: http://techservinc.com/mailman/listinfo/peda_techservinc.com Browse or Search Old Archives (2001-2004): http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] Browse or Search Current Archives (2004-Current): http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] ____________________________________________________________ You are subscribed to the PEDA discussion forum To Post messages: mailto:[email protected] Unsubscribe and Other Options: http://techservinc.com/mailman/listinfo/peda_techservinc.com Browse or Search Old Archives (2001-2004): http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] Browse or Search Current Archives (2004-Current): http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]
