FWIW, I think this character is a legal character as part of an email address (see <http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc0822.txt>, 6. ADDRESS SPECIFICATION). It seems that mailwasher should handle it correctly. (Or, better said, it should not try to interpret the local part of the address.)
