Is that really what I said? Why would you shoot from the hip like that?
I had my book sent to you sometime ago. If you had looked at it, you
see that two of the first three chapters discussed how the right-wing
was able to develop a movement long before Rove came onto the national
scene. I doubt that George Bush won the first election because of
detailed Rove's knowledge of precincts.
Much more credit goes to the Democrats, the media, the churches, and a
strong grassroots movement, not to mention money. The cultural
politics that he plays was laid out decades before.
A friend of mine is the "Rove" for the California Democratic Party.
When I first met him in local politics, I was amazed by his mastery of
the field for each precinct in Chico. Although he is only on the
statewide level, I would put his knowledge at least as high as Rove's.
His most public success, however, was connecting Barbara Boxer's
opponent to a strip joint.
On the national level, someone at Rove's level has access to detailed
knowledge by virtue of party activists on the ground. I have not lived
in western Pennsylvania for 40 years, but talking to my family, I could
give Rove a fairly accurate feel for the demographics and the
sensibilities of the population. And it does not take much brilliance
to know such things.

How much of his success comes from dirty tricks rather than knowledge of

Oh yeah, right-wingers don't know anything, and they don't appeal to
anything in American public opinion. It's all dirty tricks.
