i'm no big fan of blackburn's, and disagree with a lot of what he does, but i passed this one along to some friends in part because he manages to articulate very nicely what has always irritated me about the hoax (and sokal's continuing to find more ways to capitalized on it), and in part because i think his point about dogmatism is similarly well-stated, and could be applied equally to philosophers (rather than only to scientists, at whom he directs it).
i understand the response, but there is a lot he does well and clearly, despite all that. i guess i prefer hilary putnam, out of the anglo-american tradition, but i suspect that blackburn doesn't like him, either. ymmv.
