Because I live in Torrance, CA, I'm part of the _suburban_ elite (though I don't drive a Suburban). It's like the 1950s there, complete with people putting USC flags on their houses. (USC = University of Spoiled Children, not the University of South Carolina.) G.H.W. Bush tried to fool people into thinking that his Ivy League/preppy background didn't matter because he ate pork rinds. I guess the reason I like alt-country music is because I'm trying to get people to ignore my Ivy League/non-preppy background.
