Greetings Economists,
Many Pen-L's have been on Pacifica stations. The Berkeley station, KPFA, called the police on a pregnant African American programmer, Nadra Foster, for using the telephones and copier machine for personal copying for which she was banned from the station by Lois Withers (white business manager), but a failure to communicate to other managers resulted in a manager letting Nadra in to work on her current show commitments to which Nadra felt there this indicated the ban was not in effect. The police arrested her and used 9 officers to subdue her, including breaking her arm. During this struggle which sub manager Sasha Lilley witnessed the police brutality (therefore knows exactly what it means to call the police to the station), the police claimed Nadra bit an officer in the struggle and she was originally charged with a felony assault on a police officer.

As a result of this incident LemLem Rijo (acting station manager) has instituted an order to all KPFA employees to sign a statement they will call the police on other employees when management is not present, and failure to sign this statement effects a ban of that person from the station.

A majority of staff is mobilizing to fight these police state tactics.
thanks,
Doyle Saylor
