Black leadership != Black Americans. No?

Sorry for the geek-speak. "!=" means "not equals" or "does not equal".

No, but I wasn't talking about the people that the dominant society nominates as black leaders - what Adolph Reed calls the race management elite. I was talking about the vast majority of progressive activists and regular people.

Ah, okay. Yes, John Lewis was on NBC literally in tears. He is a genuine leader of the black people. Tavis Smiley, not that genuine a leader, but definitely an prominent name, called the constitution a fundamentally racist document, on live TV (NBC or CBS, I forget which). And then there were, as you point out, less visible non- establishment activists, too.

The atmosphere in my neighborhood, Fort Greene/Clinton Hill in Brooklyn, which is about 70% black, is electric. It's moving. I wonder if the Commissar of the Cornfields would be similarly moved if he were transported here, or if he would tell them about the efficient murder of Afghans.

Why not both? If you were to ask Cornel West, I would guess that would be his reaction. I am with both Julio and Carrol on this one. I think, perhaps like you (and a bit unlike Lou wondering about the FIRE revellers), that there is some amount of celebration that is genuine and warranted (watching Obama hold himself up as the culmination and end of all struggles, last night, dampened only some of the reluctant joy I shared with the less reluctant crowds).

You live in Brooklyn? WTF happened. You used to be cool! You might as well return to Jersey. ;-) Or is Brooklyn the new cool.

I realise I have been hogging list bandwidth the last few days, and I will shut up a bit, after a response to JimD regarding energy from the sun.
