from SLATE, 11/22/008:
>The NY [TIMES] argues that the [Hillary Clinton] appointment—along with Geithner's appointment to the Treasury and former NATO commander James Jones' likely selection as national security adviser—suggests that Obama will be a pragmatic, center-right president. "This is the violin model: Hold power with the left hand, and play the music with your right," notes one former Clinton official.<

Of course. And what will happen is 4 years of ineffective, centrist bullshit that will make the misery of the American people only 90 percent of what it would be under the Republicans. And in the next election, the Republicans will run a demagogic campaign that promises to fix the mess that the Democrats made. A Republican president will then push politics 30 degrees to the right making people just as pissed off as they were under the Democrats. And in 2016 the Democrats will nominate DLC'er Harold Ford who the Nation Magazine will support because he is not as bad as Mitt Romney or whoever. This is like being stuck in a Samuel Beckett play that has no conclusion.
