Not entirely true. I have addressed the issue on two fronts. The "even
if" above is an act of begging the question. To avoid your "spectre of
utilitarianism" ;-) critique, all I have to do is to refuse to answer
what my preference is "even if", by refusing to budge on the question
of whether one need consider this hypothetical.
For the record: I am not a progressive.
