I sometimes express this in terms of beating away an imaginary tiger at the front door while a cobra slithers through the back door. FAscism was one species of authoritarianism. There are other species (some we haven't experienced yet, and some of which may be _worse_ than fascism. The fundamental reason many cling to the label "fascism" is in order to legitimize subordination to the Democratic Party.
