Where, as in Russia and China, the outcome was not merely despotism
but despotism of an extreme form (having nothing to do with what Marx
and Engels meant by "the dictatorship of the proletariat"), the
explanation, according to Marx, must be sought in the "superstition"
and "prejudice", as opposed to the "enlightenment" and "judgment", of
the great majority, a characteristic of their individuality deriving
from the inconsistency of their social relations with those required
for the development of "enlightenment" and "judgment".

CB: Do you think the self-estrangement, lack of enlightenment and
judgment of those in Britain, Germany, France and the US had something
to do with the outcome in Russia and China ?

What about the fundamental role of proletarian _internationalism_ and
internationalist consciousness in Marx and Engels' theory of
revolution ?

Isn't it important to note that a critical specific aspect of Marx's
conceptions of enlightenment and judgment is working class and
socialist consciousness, and internationalist consciousness ?
