It is presently fatuous in the extreme to say that "a free and fair election" is even conceivable. Right now in Egypt a fascist repression is openly being carried out everywhere outside of Tahrir Square, carried out by the security police and their lumpen auxiliaries under the protection of the Army and with the blessing of the "democratic" thugs Obama, Merkel, Abbas, Cameron, and Sarkozy. The military is acting to seal off Tahrir Square to give the people their "alternative": stay and starve or be arrested and tortured. No Army regime will cut off its left arm, the security police. Mubarak will retire in a "dignified" way, but his "transitional" military successors will keep the fascist regime entirely intact. With the popular forces decimated, and with security police still present in every election district, a "free and fair"election, with an outcome preprogrammed by the regime, will indeed be held. And certified as conforming to "understood standards" by Obama and his gang. Who have just, as I pointed out, demonstrated on the back of the Haitian people just what their "standards" mean.
