Obviously, I pay more attention to discussions in which I have play a
part, but I _have_ regularly criticized others for name-calling (and
similar sins). Again and again, I ask people to stick to issues of
logic, facts, and completeness (i.e., the avoidance of the omission of
major elements of an issue) instead of name-calling. Again and again,
I have told people to criticize peoples' opinions rather than their
personalities.

BTW, as much as I disagree with Carrol's opinions and general style of
analysis, I haven't seen him engage in name-calling.
