No, you can not log in as root when telnet. This is for security. Telnet
as a normal user and use the command su to gain root access.

By default, anonymous ftp server is already setup for you. ftp to your
host, login as ftp, or as anonymous, use your email address as password
and you are logged in. Put the files that you want to distribute at
/home/ftp/pub/
