Hi, 

i) This is a security feature. You are not supposed to login as root via telnet.  

The workaround is to put all your pseudo terminal entries into /dev/securettys 
file. 


ii) The ftp server is there and the inetd daemon listens on its behalf on TCP 
port 20 and 21.
