1) you can't use "root" to login via telnet session because of security 
reason (i.e we don't want people trying to guess the root password on the 
telnet session). You have to logon using normal account first, and type 
"su" to gain root privillege.

2) By default (if you select the FTPD service) the FTP server daemon 
(program) was installed in your RedHat. from your FTP Client  type in your 
server IP address/hostname and your FTP server is ready to service. The 
directory location of your FTP server normally located in /home/ftp/pub.
