In Chinese script Hiragana and Katakana are not used.
While it is a exclusively Japanese [writing] thing, some Chinese
character encodings like Big5 and GB-2312 include Hiragana and
Katakana.
Writing systems and national encodings are related but a different
thing. E.g. all [real] Japanese encodings include the cyrillic alphabet,
which is defintely not used in [normal] Japanese writing.
