Interesting challenge. I'd ask more information about the mesh that will cover the potted plants. What would be the composition of the mesh and size of the openings? What will be left uncovered (e.g. around the stems, beneath the bottom)? Dermestid beetles can chew through some kinds of materials.
Will the plants be near items at risk? If in a hall with marble sculptures, I'd not have any concerns. Amongst your paintings or textile collections, however, I'd do my best to opt for synthetic plants. If real plants are required / demanded, then simply put them under glass (an air-tight display case). That's a good compromise. Richard J.
