Nice one Mark, not before time !
There seems to have been a problem which we have ourselves: all the
contact details for the level above PLUG (ie at UK LUG level) seem to
be out of date and going to people who are too busy to help, much as
everything aimed at PLUG was going to Steve (Gallagher) who likewise
isn't currently the best contact.
For our part we need to make sure this doesn't happen again if we can:
make sure there is central point to document contact details so that
only one place needs changing when (as will happen) people come and go.
How about forming a web site development group from volunteers within
the group so that the finished product is truly group driven. That
way we can draw on a good base of skills and add in wiki's, forums,
blogs or whatever members feel they want from the site.
In principle I'm all for that, but in practise I have a horrible
feeling it'll just mean that we don't get anything done (or not
quickly at any rate). I think we should have a discussion on this list
(perhaps moved to your forums if the traffic causes concern to people,
but cross that bridge if/when we come to it)
We have a design (http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/ekerr/plug/) that as
far as I know everyone is happy with, so I think we should just do
whatever it takes to get it online.
I don't see any reason to make heavy use of PHP at the moment; I think
we should just get existing site content (modified as relevant) into
Ed's design then get it uploaded. What I would say is that any
variable info (contact details, meeting dates, etc) should be in a
single include file so they're easily changed.
Who has the time and inclination to try to merge Ed's design and the
current site content, and fill in the gaps?

Agreed, that sounds like a better idea.

As I said, my coding skills are not top notch but I am willing to have a
go. How will be best to tackle this? Will you send me some files for me
to edit according to the design or will I have to access something
somewhere else?
Basically, let me know what needs doing (with as many hints and tips as
you have time to include!) and I will try and get it done.
