While I am on, can anyone recommend a good ISP for home hosting. I would like a static IP, good up/down ratio, reasonably priced and most importantly a good support service who understand Linux.
When I was looking for something similar last year, various people suggested The Phone Coop. I am using them for a small business with two locations, one of which hosts our CRM and general admin systems and the other a backup server. My only complaint has been that for the first site they were slow to start billing and had to be reminded!
My experience so far is that they are nice people who know their stuff (including Linux) much better than most support teams. Better still, they have been blessedly free of the "arrogance of ignorance" that most support staff seem to suffer from. Where they've not been sure of their facts, they've been happy to say so and listen to my point of view. Even then, they've been right more often than I have.
