Thanks, I might download a distro and have a play.

As a foot note, over the weekend I managed to:

  - Get Kino to Detect my Sony Camcorder
  - Control the Camcorder remotely using only the Kino software
  - Encode the resulting video files as DVD format

The one thing that will need some mastery is the video editting, it is not
as intuitive and user friendly as the Windows couterpart, Cyberlink
PowerProducer, but considering I could do the above with GNU software at all
(which I had my doubt about before I started) I am suitably impressed and
will endeavour to persist with Kino until I get the results I want.

I am not on the latest vesion of Kino, so maybe the later version has a more
user-freindly editing and effect interface.

Regards

Richard
