I found the problem: libtool was not properly installed, i. e., the file libtool.m4 was not in the right directory (/usr/local/share/aclocal/). After properly installing libtool-1.4.2, it works.
The next (minor) build problem was that make "Can't open the font 'c0c02.fi'", but removing the "Clean 12" font in the config solves this problem. Thanks again for your help.
