I can barely afford not to do it, but it will happen on my own schedule.  I 
will probably also base it on OS threads to achieve non-blocking operation w/o 
all the BIO* insanity.

Well someone needs to sit for a week(s) (an oversimplification?) and write the 
OpenSSL FFI interface. 

You have funding for that?
