Mark, I appreciate the instructions! This is the great thing about this board;
there are many people with knowledge in different areas. It keeps things
interesting and the discussion lively.

Hi John,

Transplanting a Credenza horn is do-able but requires a bit of effort because
the
horn assembly is glued to the cabinet in multiple places, it is not really a
component
as it was in earlier Victrola models like the XI etc which are strictly bolted
in
place.

The first step is locating the correct type of "Credenza" or "8-30"
there are at least two different horn types maybe even three or four varieties.
A 2-door Credenza for example is assembled differently and is about an inch or
so
shorter than the later ones.

There are 4 bolts on the 8-30 cabinet which attach the horn to the cabinet
bottom
but you must also remove the record shelves, the panels above the record
shelves and
about 20 or so glued corner blocks. It is animal glue so it will soften with
heat
and moisture but it is very tedious work. Once all the glue joints are open you
can slide the horn out the rear. Use hot animal glue (glue pot) to reattach the
corner blocks once the horn it in the new cabinet, hot gluing these will
eliminate
the need for clamping in difficult areas because you can hold them by hand while
the glue gels.

Good Luck,
Mark

Subject: [Phono-L] Credenza help

Hi All
A friend has offered me a free Credenza cabinet with motor but no horn.
How tough should it be to get a Credenza horn? Perhaps out of a beat up
hopeless cabinet??
I am not sure if there is a tonearm or not, I will have to find out. Did
the Credenza have the two or four spring motor? I saw a motor
represented as a Credenza motor on ebay, and it had two springs. The
owner of the cabinet says he has a four spring motor for it.
Any info/leads are very much appreciated!
Thanks
John Robles
