Well peter, someday when they shut down you account for absolutely no good
reason then ask you for bunch of personal information that could set you up for
identity theft you may feel differently.

Her is the whole sad story. My wife and I became Paypal members very early on
in the program We had been doing business with them with no problems for over
two years. One day out of the blue I get an email stating that our account had
been "Limited". Basically that means that you can't do anything with you
account. I called, and they told me that an internal audit had reveled that we
had committed the most heinous crime of have both my wife's, and my names on
the account. I pointed out that all of the funding for our account has both
names on it, and asked why this had suddenly become a big deal after 2.5 years.
They said that the rules state that an individual account must have only one
name on it. After we discussed it my wife and I decided to drop my name off
the account. No big deal right. Wrong, that wasn't enough for them. They
asked us to send them a copy of my wife's drivers license. This seemed strange
since she is the same person they had been doing trouble free business with for
2.5 years but we went ahead and did it. Then we waited for the account to
reopen. After a week or so I called again. This time they said " We need more
information." Now they asked for a copy of our latest bank statement showing
account activity. Not just the cover page. They want to see the transactions.
I was totally against doing this but my wife talked me into it. Now they have
our bank statement and my wife's ID, and I am starting to be a bit concerned
about who is looking at these things. Now we wait a few more days and I call
again when the account is still not open. "We need more information." Now
they want a copy of a recent utility bill showing my wife's name. You have got
to be kidding me, I say. I have already provided them with far too much
information, I say. I tell them about my concerns regarding identity theft.
They say, If you want the account opened you must send the document. I tell
the that at this point I want the account closed for good. They say, We cannot
do that until you send us the information to reopen the account. I tell that
if they don't close the account I will take legal action. This goes on for
several minutes until they switch me to a supervisor on duty. I argue with him
for several minutes until he decides I am dead serious about filing a complaint
with every government agency I can think of. Finally the agrees to close the
account. This was and will be my last dealings with this ridiculous company.
Now you know "The rest of the story" I hope that this never happens to you. It
is a month long nightmare.
Fred

I'm interested to hear why anyone would say this. A free service that
saves me the effort of finding an envelope and a stamp, accurately
addressing the envelope, writing out a check, and going to a post
box...plus the week for it to get to the seller, and the week some
sellers "need" for the check to clear (or worse, those that require a
postal money order, which requires a 20 minute wait in line at my post
office) - what's not to like?

Perhaps those who criticize it ought to try it before doing so. It's
**extremely** convenient, which is why it's such a success.

Users are only charged when they add credit card capability to their
account - just like any other credit card fee - but for everyone else,
it's free. So where exactly is the "corporate greed" in that?
