Min has those repairs about 3/4 of the way around. It is true that the repairs
are perfectly smooth and seem to be of the same age as the rest of the horn. I
mean as far as grain patterns, etc. In person the horn is not shiny at all, and
has a couple of repaired seams, but all that patched in veneer is well done and
not hokey.
Actually, re the auction, it was up ten days and I was the only bidder, and
did a buy-it-now. Perhaps I should have wondered why no one else snapped it up
at that price....

Have not ever seen a horn like horn-A that wasn't a repair. But, is it
like that all the way around? Looks like veneer repairs, but done very
well. What does the inside of the horn look like? Also, your horn has
obviously been stripped and refinished. Look at the dark circle around
the decal. If you got it off ebay, you got it for what other collectors
looking at it were willing to pay. I don't know what Marty Roenigk is
selling his for, but it appears all original, and should be
substantially more than what you paid for yours.

Sorry,

Subject: [Phono-L] FInal Determination re Oak Horn

Hi All
Here is a link to two photos. Horn A is mine, Horn B is on sale by
Marty Roenigk. Not the difference - his has staves without the patched
in areas that are evident on mine. SO I take it that those long
triangular areas on mine (horn A) ARE repairs, correct???

Thanks!!!
