Okay Jerry...I'll let the secret out...

I am "the friend" that Jerry mentioned...

I make my own furniture bands out of bicycle tire inner tubes. First cut out
the air filler stem making as small a whole as possible and then you can
slit it and make up to two very good bands that will last forever. Depending
on where you buy them you can sometimes get two inner tubes (potentially
four bands) for around 2 bucks.

Furniture rubber bands work but don't last long (at least the few I had
tried before ditching them).

Be careful if you use plastic wraps because some of them WILL react with the
finish on the cabinet. I have refinished cabinets (shellac finishes) that
were damaged because of plastic wrap.

Subject: [Phono-L] The locked lid is open. Thanks!

Thanks for all the suggestions for opening my Victrola
lid. I didn't have to resort to any lubrication in
the lock. A friend helped and through a combination
of gently flexing and pushing the lid, we were able to
operate the lock. Mike, if your check is in the mail,
I'll cash it and buy good beer. Thanks & Happy
Collecting, Jerry Blais (Albany, Or.)
