What if I owned a home right down the street from the Union show and wanted to
have my big yard sale that day, and sell some phonographs and records out of my
collection, and invited some friends who were visiting Union from out of Town
to join me. Would you consider that ripping off the Donley"s ? My little yard
sale of phono stuff is certainly not going to keep collectors from visiting the
Union show and paying their admission charge. This sort of thing happens
everywhere. Up here in the northeast we have the Giant Flea Market in Brimfield
every year just north of Sturbridge, and for a wholeweek the locals have their
little offshoots of the giant flea market at homes and fields and and whatever
open space there is throughout the area, but it certainly doesn't keep people
from visiting the big Brimfield event. It is just part of the free enterprise
system. Sure these folks are feeding off of the big event, but that is life. No
one has a monopoly on free enterprise and the en
treprenerial spirit. There aren't cops out there, taking down license numbers
and checking folks out like the FBI and passing names along so they can be
blackballed by the owners of the big event.

"These folks" have spent 30+ years building Union from a couple circus
tents to what it is today. They've served the sellers magnificently and
have every right to preserve the integrity of the show for the buyers.
To start something extra the day before the "main event" is selfish,
greedy AND unethical! And ANYONE who does so should be blackballed by
the Donley's as well as by sellers and buyers!! If another show is
needed, do it the week-end before or after and let the public decide -
don't rip-off somebody elses efforts.

best, Darrell
