The doc team would like to setup a wiki on pb11 and display it via
docweb[1]. Security concerns will be looked into, and the wiki will
start out as something like our currently used unofficial official
wiki[2]. What runs the wiki is uncertain at this time, but mediawiki
is a strong consideration. Initially wiki use will require being
logged in. If there are any objections and/or concerns, please speak
up now.

What exactly will be the point of the wiki?
I personally find wikis very complicated to browse and they annoy me to death.
Whatever the info you want to put there, why not use docweb cvs?

I was not aware the "no to a wiki" camp was this strong and truly
thought it was a done deal, so let's discuss it here and now and wait
to involve [EMAIL PROTECTED] They were CC'd due to security concerns and changes
that a wiki provides to a php.net domain. This will be the last CC
until we decide yah or nay.

Our current wiki shows its use as it's been quite useful and successful.
For example, if the MigrationStatus* page was done in CVS, it would be
a lot of unnecessary noise in CVS. And it's easier to write down some
thoughts into the Wiki than to do everything in CVS. Basically the Wiki
provides a simple means for solving certain problems when they come up,
as opposed to creating individual tools for every task. KISS. It also
promotes brain storming, an art that should have no barriers. There are
also times when something is worked out in the wiki and when ready,
inserted elsewhere like into the doc howto, manual, docweb, etc.

Wiki's can be complicated to browse and us having multiple resources of
information (docweb, manual about page, wiki) can get confusing but the
intent is not to let that happen. If it does, we will then reevaluate the
situation. The key for that is having a nice and updated index page.

And to those wondering, the use of the wiki will not replace the manual
or docweb.

Philip Olson
