Another way to state the elevated prolactin level issue: Many doctors assume that elevated prolactin levels mean a prolactinoma which is a very common type of pituitary tumor. The pituitary center I went to stated that almost always prolactin levels under 200 are NOT prolactinomas. If the elevated prolactin level is caused by pressure on the pituitary (versus the productin of prolactin by a prolactinoma) it is useless taking meds to try to shrink the tumor, it will not work. I was missdiagnosed with a prolactinoma when I had elevated prolactin levels, so I know what I am talking about here. It is critical for pituitary patients to be seen by experts in this field...it saves the patients years of treatments that may be in vain. Fatigue is a common symptom for pituitary patients. All hormone levels should be closely monitored by a pituitary specialist...it will make a world of difference to be kept in balance. You can call me if you want: 541-757-9663. Jean in Oregon |
