I was diagnosed with a big prolactinoma in 1994.  Took Permax (Pergolide) for 10 years; switched to Dostinex last year.  Tumor has shrunk considerably.  When I was diagnosed, I was told I would probably have to take medication for life.

It was either that, or have surgery to attempt to remove the tumor, which would very likely result in either (1) damage to the pituitary gland, or (2) the gland would not work properly, from the combined effect of the tumor and surgery, which would require daily hormone replacement therapy.

If it is a choice between one pill or the other, I would prefer the pill that does not have surgery preceding it!
