Hi bzmom, Yes, low growth hormone is important to follow up on, you may need (and probably do) growth hormone replacement. Your doctor's office should have told you about your low growth hormone before surgery and definitely should not have waited thirty days to inform you that it remains low. You should have a talk with your endo about his office staff and their lack of communication with you. If it came directly from the doctor, ask him to send you copies of all your test results as soon as they receive them (by fax or mail-you will probably have to sign a release) and follow up with them as soon as you receive the results. You must be proactive in your care. Unfortunately, you cannot depend on your doctor or his staff to inform you of results in a timely manner, so you must get the results yourself. I usually wait a week and if the results have not been sent to me, I will call the office and usually they will fax them right over or I can pick them up. You should always keep copies of ALL your medical records. I have two 3" binders full of my medical records from the past 3 1/2 years. Growth hormone is very important to your health and well being. Symptoms of GH deficiency include: weakened heart muscle contraction and heart rate increased arterial plaque and blood pressure elevated lipids or fats in the blood: - cholesterol
- low density lipoproteins (LDL)
- triglycerides
decreased exercise capacity due to decreased cardiac output decreased energy due to decreased metabolic rate abnormal body composition: - increased abdominal obesity (waist to hip ratio)
- decreased bone density due to decreased synthesis of bone
- increase in fractures and osteoporosis
- decreased muscle strength and muscle size
- decreased lean body mass
- increased fat mass
problem with sleep quality decreased social contact symptoms of low blood sugar: - weakness or tiredness
- headaches
- poor concentration or memory
Physical Symptoms - lack of energy or fatigue
- decreased sexual desire
- muscle weakness
- sleep problems
- weight gain
Psychological Symptoms - shyness
- withdrawal from others
- nervousness or anxiety
- sadness or depression
- feelings of hopelessness
