Ooo Ooo Ooo (Minnie holds up her hand)... I know why... or I think I know why ![]() . It is true that if you are going to test prolactin, you need to test at the same time or around the same time, because prolactin is highest in the a.m. It too has a diurnal rhythm. It is also true that it can very mildly elevate if you have eaten, but the literature says that it isn't enough to affect testing. (so they say....) ![]() BUT... if you are woman and your prolactin is measured mid cycle- it should be higher then than at any other time. I surprised my endo when I did a high prolactin (well, high for me at 2x the upper limit of normal). He had me come in right at the end of my cycle - day 26, and it was in range. He explained to me that prolactin is the highest mid-cycle in a woman. If you are also taking other medications, be sure to check with your endo to make sure that they aren't affecting your prolactin. Some anti-d's and some other meds do raise prolactin! So... what to do? Measure the same time everytime. If you do it fasting, always to it fasting, and if you are a woman, try to do it around the same time of your cycle. I know now if my endo wants prolactin, I'll do it towards the end of my cycle to keep us both straight ![]() . Hope this helps! TB.. thank you so much for your support and advice! ![]() Minnie |
